Sustainable heat reuse in the data industry - PFAS-free by 2026 for a greener future. At ZutaCore, we are committed to making net zero emissions a reality by developing innovative liquid cooling solutions for the data industry.
Reducing energy, water, and land usage, as well as emphasizing recyclability and using sustainable materials, is critical for the data industry to achieve its net zero emissions goals. Data centers are projected to account for 3.2%1 of the total global energy consumption in 2030, making the need for efficient resource usage more pressing than ever. By adopting sustainable practices and investing in green technology, we can reduce the amount of energy and resources consumed, limit the environmental impact of data centers, and ensure a more sustainable future for generations to come.
One of the unique advantages of the ZutaCore waterless direct liquid cooling solution is its improved efficiency of removing heat away from the processors. As workloads cause the processors to heat, the heat transfer fluid absorbs the heat causing the liquid to boil and vaporize. The state change from a liquid to a gas is a highly efficient mechanism to remove the heat, which is then expelled outside of the data center or used via heat re-use applications enabling zero emissions.
Unlike both air- and water-based cooling, there is no reliance on the cold temperature or high velocity of the air or water to remove the heat. This method of cooling allows for more efficient operation of the servers by reducing the power draw once server fans go idle and allowing the data center to increase the ambient air temperature, saving money on power and cooling. Additionally, the heat transfer fluid is non-corrosive, meaning fluid requires little maintenance when compared with water-based cooling systems.
Once airflow is no longer a limiting factor, organizations can invest in higher-end processors and denser systems, no longer needing to prioritize cooling over performance. Data center real estate can be more efficiently used as densely configured racks can support higher core counts and higher workloads. By reusing this heat, we can reduce the energy needed for heating and cooling in surrounding buildings, decreasing the carbon footprint of the entire system, and making net zero emissions a closer reality.
"ZutaCore's efforts to reduce the environmental impact of data centers underscores its commitment to sustainability,” said Jennifer Huffstetler, chief product sustainability officer, vice president and general manager of future platform strategy and sustainability at Intel Corporation. “This aligns with Intel's sustainability strategy for the next generation of processors, which are designed to optimize performance and energy efficiency while reducing the carbon footprint of data centers. Together, we are working towards creating a world where technology can coexist with the environment without compromising on performance or efficiency."
ZutaCore have been privileged to be collaborating with Intel since its inception, across technology, sustainability, and market adoption. Intel is our partner of choice for our DTC solutions to showcase the performance and sustainability benefits.
As part of our unwavering commitment to sustainability, we are testing various PFAS-free alternatives and will bring a PFAS-free direct-on-chip liquid cooling solution to the market in 2026 that will not only reduce emissions but also deliver on the benefits of our high-performance solution without compromising safety or sustainability. We recognize the imperative need to work alongside industry leaders to achieve a PFAS-free future for liquid cooling solutions, and we are committed to continuously providing a safer and more sustainable alternative for the data industry.
Furthermore, as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we are proud to announce that we have transitioned to using R-1336mzz(Z) thermal management fluids. These thermal management fluids have a very low global warming potential and zero ozone depletion potential, making them an ideal choice for our closed-loop liquid cooling solutions that are critical to the data industry's net zero emissions goals.
R-1336mzz(Z) thermal management fluids are based on hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) technology, one of the latest innovations in the industry that has supported end users globally in achieving short- and long-term sustainability objectives.
ZutaCore is proud to be at the forefront of sustainable waterless liquid cooling solutions for the data industry. Our direct-on-chip PFAS-free liquid cooling technology, set to hit the market in 2026, is a revolutionary step toward a safer and more sustainable data industry. In addition, our recent transition to using R-1336mzz(Z) thermal management fluids make our liquid cooling solutions a top pick for data centers today, aiming to achieve net zero emissions. With R-1336mzz(Z) thermal management fluids, data centers can reduce their carbon footprint and rely on a safe and cost-effective cooling solution. ZutaCore takes pride in being a leader in cutting-edge green technology and is committed to helping the data industry achieve its zero emissions goals while delivering high-performance liquid cooling solutions.
